What are the many dilemmas around the spatial planning of data centers? The Working Group (AK) for data centers at the Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association (ARL) brings researchers from around Germany, Austria and Luxembourg (me) together with planners from Berlin, Frankfurt, Vienna, and Nierstein to discuss issues around provision of infrastructure and resources, health, property values, multiscalar economic development. Important work in the interests of balancing knowledge asymmetries, and inclusive political and socioeconomic development. Data centers are in the media almost everyday now with serious and justified concerns but both pro and contra debates in the media are often rather simplistic analyses. This is a great group, and there is a lot to discuss and organize. Publications coming soon!
