Welcome Dr. Catherine Wong

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Catherine Wong has joined our team and will be taking the lead on the FNR CORE funded project, GLOBAL: Relational cities and enclave urbanism in the 'Singapores of the West'

Prior to joining the University of Luxembourg, Catherine did her first post-doc at The Cairns Institute, James Cook University in Australia, working on climate governance in China, Australia and the UK, and looking at issues of environmental justice, risk governance, climate politics, and stakeholder engagement in policy decision-making. 

She received her PhD from the Australian National University (ANU) where she was also the recipient of the prestigious ANU Research Scholarship (International) and ANU HDR Merit Scholarship. Her dissertation on risk governance in the Indian nuclear industry uncovered the inner workings of elite risk perception and processes of transformations within the industry in the post-Fukushima era. While at ANU, she  taught "Environmental Sociology", and "Food, Environment and Development" at the School of Sociology, and guest lectured on "Qualitative Data Analysis using Nvivo" at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy. She was also research associate at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, where she was also the assistant editor of the Journal of Southeast Asian Economies.

Originally from Singapore, Catherine brings broad international experience and has accumulated extensive experience in both the private and NGO sectors. She was a business planning analyst at Hewlett Packard in Ireland and a reporter at the The Straits Times and The Business Times in Singapore. Major stories that she covered include the Beijing Olympics, Obama’s presidential elections in 2008, piracy in the Gulf of Aden and drug labs in Asia. Catherine also worked for the Global Development Network in New Delhi, as the project coordinator of the Global Migration Project.
